Abstract
After the amazing record of 13 championships and 155 times of successive cross-seasoned victories made by Taipei Physical Education College (which now being a part of the campus of the University of Taipei), NTNU Men’s Basketball Team has made such 3 years of successive victories. And the backstage driving force of the victory shall belong to the present chairperson of Department of Athletic Performance NTNU, Professor Ming-Tsung Shih. Some people may say that every athlete is an ingredient of a dish, and there shall be a person who could be able to make up such delicious dish onto the table, which would challenge the chief’s potentiality and experiences. And in this case, this backstage driving force and successful chief shall be nobody but Professor Ming-Tsung Shih. This research includes the coaching philosophy and the life story of Professor Shih, which also the story and a model of NTNU Men’s Basket Team. The purpose of this research has included into three parts: To understand the specialty of the Taiwanese Basketball environment: the coaches in Taiwan are just like Forrest Gump, you never ask why, just run forward; sports becoming the tools for students to enter the universities. Second, knowing the story of Professor Shih: a basketball coaching life never expected, with different coaching experiences. The coaching philosophy of Professor Shih: never push too much on winning, but look inside your heart; morality is way more important than winning or losing the games; a coach, a mentor, and also a friend. And also developed into the following questions: What are the differences between other nations and ours in the environment of professional basketball? What challenges have Professor Shih ever being through as a coach? Developing the coaching philosophy of Professor Shih. This research is basically building on the 19 years of coaching experience of Professor Shish, and expecting to conclude the coaching spirit of Professor Shih and his influences to the Taiwanese professional basketball.
