Abstract

The concept of this thesis “The Lost Border” is the “sense of border” that the author perceives through the study of the historical process of his hometown. In the past, his parents lost their hometown “Gueishan Island” and collectively moved to Taiwan. He reviews his creative nexus and develops the central idea. The author presents the invisible but ubiquitous border by studying the theories related to “border,” determining its scope, and using various expression techniques. He views the “space” where he is from his current perspective and presents the “place” he has been watching at for a long time. Drawing out the image of “people” gives the works an atmosphere of both intimacy and “alienation,” and then develops the sense of border. The author expects he can re-recognize the space through the screen and let it become the core concept of his creation. There are five chapters in this thesis. Chapter 1 “Introduction” explains the research motive, the scope of the research, and the research method. First, the author elaborates the previous creative nexus and explains the relevance to the theme of this thesis. Second, he analyzes the methods of personal creation and the possibility of creating with different media. He then formulates the further creative forms with detailed plans. Chapter 2 “Ubiquitous Border” discusses the related theories such as borders. Studying the border of the geographic space, and extending to the psychological “border” of people in modern cities. Both of them are visible and invisible borders, respectively. Chapter 3 “Reproduction of Border in Space” analyzes and compares the concepts of artists’ creations related to borders. Furthermore, it explains the creative techniques and content. In Chapter 4 “The Creation Series: The Lost Border,” the author studies the problems, explains the practiced methods, and elaborates the idea of the creations in this series individually. Finally, in the last chapter “Conclusion,” the author reviews the personal creations and proposes the prospect of creations.
