Abstract

This thesis primarily presents the creative statements behind the author's artworks in the "Love, Time, and Memory" series. Centered around own family structure, the author habitually observes and captures images of cats and dogs through visual perception in the context of daily life. Whether it is a fleeting glimpse or a prolonged experience, the emotional bonds formed between humans and animals during coexistence consistently inspire profound insights into life. These insights form the foundation of the author's artistic creation of animal portraits. During the creative process, the author initially uses photography as a medium to capture images of cats and dogs. Each press of the shutter preserves a specific moment, and these photos are accumulated into an archive of memories. The media—photos, videos, and text—are then uploaded to social media, inviting others to engage in conversations. Through interviews, the dialogues between the author and interviewees are fully recorded, then categorized into verbal elements, text, and images within dedicated archives, thereby constructing a unique database for painting creation. In this way, the flow of information on the Internet expands the author's otherwise limited perspective and provides the artwork discussed in this research with a broader range of dimensions and meanings. After a prolonged period of conceptualization and design, the author selected oil paint and colored pencils as mediums to vividly recreate the appearance of cats and dogs on canvas and paper. These artworks aim to express the unique and intricate emotions of love between humans and pets in modern society, while also interpreting the inner self and the psychological transitions experienced throughout life. Guided by the concepts of"understanding forms of love," "depicting the passage of time," and "preserving beautiful memories," the paintings convey a sense of harmony and interconnectedness, which form the central focus and core values of this research. This creative thesis is divided into five chapters. The chapter 1 serves as the intr-oduction, outlining the motivation and purpose of the creative research, the research methods and framework, as well as the definitions of key terms. The chapter 2 focuses on the theoretical foundation and literature review, exploring the relationship between humans and animals, the representational forms of animal imagery, the symbolic mea-nings of cats and dogs in painting, and Courbet's perspective on realism. The chapter 3 delves into the creative discourse surrounding cat and dog paintings, discussing the-mes such as the phenomena and imagery of home, the perception of everyday scenes, the integration of virtual and reality, and the application of various materials and pra-ctices in painting. The chapter 4 interprets the creative themes of love, time, and me-mory, providing an analysis and interpretation of three series of works: The Sum of Love, Depicting Time, and Storing Memories. Finally, the chapter 5 presents the con-clusions and future outlook of this study, summarizing the research findings and pro-viding an overview of the directions and prospects for future creative endeavors.
