Abstract
The Presbyterian Church is currently the largest Christian de-nomination in Taiwan; however, its status and importance seem to be more focused on political and theological aspects, with little atten-tion given to cultural or historical perspectives. Therefore, this the-sis attempts to texts, utilizing text analysis as a foundation to gain insights that may differ from past perspectives. Moreover, since Christianity is a foreign religion in Taiwan rela-tive to its society, one of the main challenges for missionaries and clergies during its introduction was the process of contextualization; that is, how to transform local Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism ideas and figures into materials for evangelism. This aspect will also be a key point of investigation in this study.By synthesizing the results obtained from the aforementioned approaches, this thesis aims to explore the development and dissem-ination of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan during the Japanese co-lonial period, and the changes it brought to Taiwan's civil society.
