Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the effect of Kinesio taping, followed by instant fatigue intervention, on stop-jump task. Eleven Division I collegiate female athletes with 4 years of specialized training, and 11 healthy college students with exercise frequency of over 3 times per week, were recruited as participants. Two Kistler force plates and ten Vicon infrared cameras were synchronized with Vicon Nexus 1.85 software to capture the stop-jump task. Visual3D V5 software was used for filtering and calculating. Statistics of each group was performed separately with repeated-measure two-way ANOVA using SPSS 20.0 (a=.05). We found in the athlete group with, at touch down, when without taping, peak vertical loading rate and knee backward shear force were increased. After taping, we found delayed time of peak hip flexion angle and peak anterior-posterior force, lower peak vertical force, lower vertical momentum within 50 ms and during landing phase, along with delayed time of peak vertical force after fatigue. In the healthy college students, at touch-down, without taping, anterior-posterior and vertical GRF, 50ms ant-pos momentum, plantar-flexion torque and joint contribution were found increased after fatigue. Lower peak vertical GRF, delayed time of peak ant-pos GRF, lowered ant-pos and vertical peak loading rate, decreased hip extension torque and total hip net negative work were found after taping. Furthermore, peak ant-pos GRF, 50 ms ant-pos momentum and jumping height decrease were found lower after fatigue. It concluded from the results, that Kinesio taping can decrease the load in landing and the pressure on knee whether fatigue or not, in both Division I collegiate athletes and healthy college students, but has no acute effect on enhancing performance. We recommend that preventive Kinesio taping be applied on intense exercises with repeated jumping.
