Abstract

Abstract The thesis aims to explore perceptions of travel motivations, travel experiences and various influences of elders and in particular focus on heritage tourism. Based on a review of the literature concerning travel experiences, heritage and aged studies, as well as an analysis of experiential learning and informal learning, a series of interviews was undertaken. The analysis and presentation of this interview data are then discussed. The intention is to dissect the views held by interviewees, five elders loving to join heritage activities, on travel experiences in heritage tourism and those portrayed in the programmes. Description and analysis of these interviewees’ statements suggest that travel experiences were valued and interpreted in different ways by interviewees, especially in levels of physical, psychological, relationship and learning. The analysis also illustrates the diversity of interviewees’ motivations and elders apply their travel experiences in kind of levels, involving psychological and learning levels. The concluding chapter reviews the research findings and offers related suggestions. Issues for further research are finally put forward.
