In recent years, studies of international etiquette, grooming, and image building have gained increasing attentions in college curriculums, particularly in tourism and applied foreign language departments of technological universities wherein both General Education and Selective courses are offered. This study aimed to explore student’s learning motivation as well as satisfaction toward such courses at a technological university through qualitative interviews. By analyzing the content of the interviews, this study hopes to provide research directions and recommendations, and to serve as a reference for future teaching.Key findings of the research include: (1). Students with positive learning attitudes believe that the courses are helpful for their future career development. (2). The quality of interaction between instructors and students as well as the course arrangements are crucial during the learning process. (3). A good learning environment and facilities are also important factors valued by students. (4). Students with negative learning attitudes generally care only about earning credits and do not value the learning process or outcomes. As a result, this study recommends: (1). Students should view these courses not just as means to earning credits but useful tools for improving their personal quality and competitiveness. (2). The hands-on practice aspect of the courses should be increased, teaching methods should be diversified, and instructor-student interaction should be enhanced. (3). The grooming and image building course should be arranged as a selective course for freshmen to boost their confidence, while the international etiquette course should be arranged for juniors in order to prepare for internships and future employment. Both courses should be gradually progressive. (4). All departments in the university should consider offering relevant courses to help their students prepare for job market.
