zh_TW
The author uses weeds-common, self-propagating, and unplanted plants—as the primary visual elements in their artwork, employing these ordinary life forms as metaphors for both the collective and the self. The focus of this exploration is the fear of insignificance that arises in a generation marked by globalization and commodification, with the accelerating development of the internet and entertainment systems. This creative research is divided into five chapters. Chapter One, the introduction, outlines the motivation and purpose of the study, along with its scope, limitations, methodology, and terminology. Chapter Two centers on existence and quantification in contemporary times, addressing the feelings of individual insignificance in an era saturated with overwhelming information. This chapter also discusses how the repetition of quantities can express the significance and value of individual existence through art. Chapter Three connects the theoretical foundations laid out in the previous chapters with visual representations, analyzing dense clusters of plant life and the depiction of neon-lit individuals as small entities, and then links these insights to the author's own work. Chapter Four presents the "Dusts of Masses" series, which combines the meticulous techniques of ink painting with Western drawing concepts to portray small individuals and groups as a collective. Chapter Five provides a detailed analysis of individual works, tying together the thematic elements and content across the creative process. Chapter Six concludes the research, reflecting on the creative journey and reevaluating the context of the author's work, paving the way for future projects. The creative outcome is divided into two series, Dusts of Masses and Clamorous Beings. Both series are the author’s attempt to confront feelings of personal insignificance, isolation, and emptiness in the vast, ever-changing space and time of the modern world. Through varying perspectives, these works depict the cohesion between the self and the collective in Dusts of Masses, offering a response to the small individual’s place in contemporary space and time.en_US
