Abstract
The purpose of this study was trying to find out the influence of overnight camping on the leading ability of junior high school students. The One-group Pretest-Posttest Design has been adopted in this study. All of the eighth graders of one high school in New Taipei City were the research target. And the activities such as tent-pitching, camp cooking, knotting, and leadership were included in the overnight camping. The evaluation tool for qualification in this study was based on the Leadership De-velopment Program by Professor Jan-der Wang. Also, descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test were used to see whether gender, scout participation, and scout lesson participation affect the development of leadership. Finally, the qualitative semi-structured interviews were analyzed to realize the effect of overnight camping on the development of leadership. The main findings are: 1. After the camping, the improvement of the leadership was shown by the test re-sults.The improvement has little to do with gender and scout participation. However, those who have participated in scout lesson made great improvement in leadership. 2. According to the target students, the key factors influence the improvement of leadership were: basic leadership concept, oral communication skill, deci-sion-making, group power skill, problem-solving skill, planning skill, personal characteristic, and so on. Some suggestions would be made and submitted for future study.
