Abstract
This paper aims to examine the large-scale choral-orchestral work Requiem for the Living, completed in early 2013 by contemporary American composer Dan Forrest (1978-), through the lens of a conductor. Dan Forrest is a mid-generation composer who is gradually establishing his reputation internationally. As a full-time composer, Forrest has released a considerable number of diverse music works to date, which have been well received. As a Christian, religious pieces make up the vast majority of his numerous creations, among which Requiem for the Living is one of the most outstanding and popular representative works. This study will focus on analyzing the creative background, arrangement of movements and lyrics, musical structure, and the conducting interpretation related to Requiem for the Living. It is hoped that through this research, this remarkable contemporary Christian choral work, which holds both artistic and appreciative value, can be systematically introduced to a broad base of enthusiasts of choral music and Christian sacred music.
