Abstract
Aesthetics, in today's context, serves as a value for judgment, experience, and even attitude. It provides a certain level of criteria for evaluation in various fields, but also results in a lack of consistent standards to measure aesthetics. Throughout history, from A.H. Munsell's color harmony formula to the Japanese designer's proposal of the golden ratio (70:25:5) color scheme, systematic approaches have been widely applied in multiple design domains. Therefore, this study aims to explore the impact of different color combination area ratios on visual aesthetics. Extracting research findings from Kobayashi Shigeyuki's book "Color Image Scale" and utilizing color evaluation scores commonly used in the field of visual media, the study seeks to investigate the subject of aesthetic perception. To verify the influence of the chosen Munsell area ratio and the golden ratio on color harmony and aesthetic determinants, the study will conduct a two-phase survey. The first phase will employ color combination pie charts, while the second phase will utilize flat design images. A total of 131 and 202 valid questionnaires were collected in each phase, respectively. The results of the study indicate that both the Munsell area ratio and the golden ratio have a significant positive correlation with various aesthetic determinants, whether applied in flat design images or pie charts. Specifically, the golden ratio has the most influence on aesthetic determinants in flat design images, while the Munsell area ratio has the most impact in pie charts.
