Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of SMR/theta ratio training on putting performance in golf experts. Previous study suggested neurofeedback training (NFT) has a facilitative effect on sports performance. However, whether NFT improves sports performance via the controlling of brain oscillation, the retention of training effects, and whether the ratio was an effective training target remained unclear. Method: The present study recruited 17 expert golfers, and assigned them into the pseudo-training group and NFT group. Participants underwent 10 sessions of either NFT or pseudo trainings after the pre-test. Retention tests were applied to participants 7 days after the post-test. Putting score and SMR/theta ratio were the dependent measures. Results: The results showed that NFT group improved putting performance, increased SMR/theta ratio after 10 sessions of SMR/theta NFT at post-test and retention test compared to the pseudo-training group. Conclusion: 10 sessions of NFT on SMR/theta ratio could improve putting performance in expert golfers.
