Abstract
Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between knowledge, efficacy, and use of sedative-hypnotics in the past year among adults in Taiwan. Method This study used secondary data from an investigation conducted by GUO VAN Foundation in 2015. Study sample included 897 subjects who were 20 years old or more in Taiwan. Result 1. 25.4% of study sample used sedative-hypnotics in the past year. 2. Women, those 65 years old or more, those with low education level, with poor sleep quality, and with poor sleep quality without seeking medication, were more likely to use sedative-hypnotics in the past year. 3. The knowledge on sedative-hypnotics use was associated with age, residence, education level, or smoke (p<0.05). 4. The efficacy of sedative-hypnotics use was associated with gender, residence, drinking, or sleep quality (p<0.05). 5. Subjects with lower level of knowledge or poorer sleep quality might have a higher odds of using sedative-hypnotics.
