作者先提出為情緒障礙學生選擇策略時,要以系統化的資料、監控策略的進步情形以及新技巧的演練,做為選擇策略的注意事項。在教學方面,作者以親身經驗說明教師使用直接教學法的好處及對直接教學法常見的批評提出個人意見。接著作者並提出另外兩個有用的策略,工作分析與記憶術,並以實例說明如何進行。最後作者也提醒教師,社交技巧就像學業技巧,是可以教導的。
