作者採用Van Baska and Bailey(1992)所提出的範圍與順序模式作為研究國小資賦優異兒童自然科課程分析研究的理論架構。作者認為 此磨事在發展資優教育時有多項功能,如:1.結合理論與學校課程。2.能專為資優生的能力作評鑑。3.容易看出課程全貌及各元素間的關係。4.不限以年級 來劃分學生能力,且強調學習同時,也包含了評鑑的標準。最後,作者簡述概念發展的途徑與課程全貌,並舉出此模式在生物、地球科學、物理、化學的能力順序與應用實例。
