評量年幼的視障兒童或多重障礙兒童是一個非常複雜的過程,只用一個評量工具很少能提供正確有用的資料,準備一個評量時,需先徹底閱讀已有的醫療及教育檔案;若想收集有關孩子的資料可從與孩子的父母、老師或有關人員晤談、直接觀察孩子在不同環境中 (熟悉與不熟悉的) 的行為表現或利用有常模參照或有標準的工具正式評量等三方面來進行。這些方面所得的資料經常是重疊的,故謹慎考慮這些評量方法的相互關係和選用最貼切的技術以取得個別孩子的資料便同等重要了。
