以本省所產玉蜀黍穗軸為原料,用鹽酸、硫酸及磷酸為催化劑,使之加水分解產生糠醛(Furfural)。在常壓下,用不同濃度的酸,分別加熱相當時間,並將玉蜀黍穗軸切分為頭、中、尾三段,以比較其糠醛產率的高低。結果發現玉蜀黍穗軸之尾部用5N之鹽酸加熱2小時,所得之糠醛產率最高,約為15.6%。
