However, a gas station may result in disaster or environmental pollution and affect the urban population seriously. Hence, the gas station may be regarded as a YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard) facility (its convenient) or a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) facility (its risk). There was little research concerned about the environmental risk perception of gas station in Taiwan; hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the environmental risk perception of gas station, and find the major factors affecting environmental risk perceptions. Taoyuan County was selected as the case study and a questionnaire survey with stratified sampling was used to collect the opinions of people living in Taoyuan County. Finally, 452 effective samples were collected. The result shows that the gas station generates more NIMBY effect than YIMBY effect, and people regard the environmental risk of gas station is in a moderate scale. Among all the risk, the strongest risk perceptions are soil and groundwater pollution by the oil spill, fire disaster, and the tank explosion accident. This study also summarizes that the major factors that affect peoples’ environmental risk perception of a gas station including gender, presence of young children at home, the trust attitude toward government and the gas station industry, the extent of related environmental knowledge, and the perceived distance of gas station. The interesting finding is that the perceived distance affects the risk perception more significant than the physical distance. In addition, approximately half of people will take positive action to protect their environment if the gas station hazard occurs.加油站環境風險認知迎臂效應鄰避效應感知距離gas stationenvironmental risk perceptionYIMBYNIMBYperceived distance民眾對加油站環境風險認知之研究─以桃園縣為例
