Keeping balance in a dynamical environment or increasing load to supra-postural tasks may induce posture instability and even motion sickness. Mobile devices become more and more popular nowadays. In this study, based on the postural instability theory, three experiments were designed. The aim of this study was to find out the posture control and motion sickness phenomenon while individuals used the handwriting input method to perform various tasks with a smartphone under the imitated transportation conditions. In experiment 1, twelve participants had to perform the following tasks under dynamic carriage simulations: Keeping balance and performing a Chinses standard writing task with dominant and non-dominant hands. In experiment 2, forty-eight participants were randomly assigned into four groups that were constructed by writing hands and two levels of cognition load to perform the cursive-writing copying tasks. For experiment 3, forty-eight participants were randomly assigned to the four groups that were constituted by the writing hands and complexity of the characters to perform the cursive writing copy task (covering the strokes of the sample characters). Participants have to fill out the simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) before and after the experiment. The position data of the specific segments were collected by the magnetic tracking system during the trials to calculate the body sway and the cross-correlation coefficients among the target markers. Results revealed that different movement patterns were found in various supra-postural tasks. The conclusions of the current study were that writing hand, cognition load and movement complexity were not the main reason that caused motion sickness. However, these factors affected the control of body posture. Few differences were found in posture control between people who were motion sickness and who were not.生態心理學姿勢不穩定理論超姿勢任務移動室Ecological psychologypostural instability theorysupra-postural taskmoving room行動裝置操作引致之姿勢因應與動暈:檢證協調架構、認知負荷與動作複雜度效應Posture adaptation and motion sickness induced by manipulating mobile device: Examining the effects of coordinative structure, cognition load and movement complexity
