The idea of “home” is constantly imagined by mainstream society as the safe haven, however, it can mean the polar opposite in the reality of a homosexual person. Familial relations thus become a difficult emotional hurdle when the time comes for a gay person to face family. This thesis researches the family narration in Contemporary Taiwanese gay literature by analyzing gay protagonists and their emotional journey through writings about family. By digging through the past and examining the cause of emotional trauma in both themselves and the parents, the protagonists are able to repair the family relationship with communication and compromise. This research investigates two aspects of the family narration in Gay Literature: the father-son relationship, and the representation of female relatives. In an attempt to compare the interaction between gay men and the father figure, as well as other female relations, this thesis juxtaposes and analyzes gay narrators in multiple texts. This thesis also examines the effects on different family members and the changes in family dynamic after “coming out”. The core focus of this research is, then, to study the message and the significance of family narration in gay literature in contemporary Taiwan.同志男同志散文家庭書寫HomosexualGay proseFamilial writing家路難行/尋—— 論當代臺灣男同志散文的家庭書寫Lost on the journey home:Research on familial writing in Contemporary Taiwanese gay prose
