Although the term 'Zhi' frequently appears throughout the Yi Zhuan (Commentaries on the Yi), it has rarely been the subject of focused scholarly attention. Despite its scattered occurrences across hexagrams and line texts, the use of 'Zhi' in the Yi Zhuan reveals an internal system that encompasses both the cosmic order and the cultivation of moral character. This thesis takes 'Zhi' as the interpretivecore, employing Charles Wei-Hsun Fu’s “creative hermeneutics” and its five levels as a methodological framework. Proceeding from semantic analysis, through image–number (xiangshu) structures, and finally to philosophical interpretation, the study integrates classical Confucian texts with Neo-Confucian mind–nature theory to elucidate the doctrinal functions and interpretive potential of'Zhi' within the Yi system. At the semantic level, the character 'Zhi' in the Yi Zhuan demonstrates a unified meaning and widespread distribution, indicating its intentional and consistent use. At the image–number level, the study identifies a threefold structure—subject, object, and goal—through which 'Zhi' articulates directional action and ethical value, reflecting the image–number school's ultimate aim of harmonizing yin and yang. At the level of philosophical interpretation, 'Zhi' serves asa conceptual nexus that integrates cosmological generation, political transformation, and the ontological praxis of mind–nature theory. Through this, the internal tension between image–number and moral principle is activated, opening a pathway from the doctrinal system of the Yi toward its reinterpretation in the terms of Neo-Confucian moral philosophy.《易傳》志象數宇宙論政治論心性論Yi ZhuanZhiXiangshu (Image and Number)CosmologyPolitical PhilosophyMind-Nature Theory《易》言「志」辨A Dialectical Study of'Zhi' in the Yi Zhuan學術論文
