This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the transformation needs and processes of four tape trading companies through observation, literature review, and in-depth interviews. It explores the transformation models and strategies, as well as the factors influencing the success and failure of these transformations. The findings indicate that these companies typically start from pure trade or small-scale buying and selling, gradually developing into processing factories, tape manufacturing plants, and eventually expanding into international and diversified operations. Successful transformations often involve vertical integration, enhancing their position in the industrial chain by production-driven trade or trade-driven production. Companies need to foresee future competitive threats and possess unique competitive advantages that are difficult to replicate. They should implement differentiation strategies in response to market changes, utilizing resource-based theory, transaction cost theory, and concentric circle theory. The study identifies key characteristics of successful transforming companies, such as a strong corporate culture, rapid response capabilities, robust leadership, and ample talent reserves. Conversely, reasons for transformation failure include insufficient technology, inadequate resources, and differing business logics.
