Analysis of historical data and documents is one of the most effective ways of understanding Taiwan’s history and culture. Taiwan was occupied by the Dutch and Spanish, and had been a Japanese colony for 50 years. The opening of treaty ports in the 1860s brought in many foreign visitors, including businessmen, missionaries, and explorers. These foreign occupants and visitors conducted research and wrote travel narratives which were left behind, becoming important accounts of Taiwanese history for the people of Taiwan. This study outlines the roles of patrons, including government agencies, private publishers, and religious organizations, to determine their purpose in publishing a Chinese translation and explore how they manipulated these translations. Through analysis of translations by different patrons, this study presents important considerations when discussing the translation of Taiwan’s historical data.臺灣史翻譯贊助者意識形態Taiwanese historytranslationpatronideology不同視角下的臺灣: 臺灣史相關文本之翻譯贊助者研究The Role of Patrons in the Translations of Taiwan’s Historical Texts
