However, in labor-intensive industries, smoking is not uncommon phenomenon in the workplace. The catering industry is one of them. When both subordinates and supervisors smoke, they would be highly likely to meet and interact in the smoking area during breaks. The subordinates will observe the supervisor's role and make appropriate responses. This research was qualitative research and used a semi-structured interview method. I analyzed the chat and interaction between subordinates and supervisors during the smoking time. Collected 16 subordinates who have smoking experience with their supervisors. The results are twofold. On the one hand, the supervisor may enter a smoking place with their work roles. In this case, most of the chat topics are related to work, which can help subordinates to better understand the supervisor's way of doing things, the current state of the company, and the implementation of policies; on the other hand, the supervisor may enter the smoking place with their nonwork roles. The chat topics are the supervisor's self-reflection, work experience sharing, and life anecdotes. These topics can help subordinates to familiarize themselves with the supervisor's temper, improve the relationship between the supervisor and the subordinate, the subordinate is more willing to dedicate to the work, and the subordinate can learn the skills of work, and help career development of subordinate individuals. Finally, the research results are discussed, and practical implications and future research directions are proposed.角色轉換角色多樣性抽菸role transitionrole diversitysmoking要一起嗎?抽菸期間主管與部屬互動研究Time for a smoke?
