Abstract
This study was mainly a survey analysis for understanding the present condition of the college entrance and employment of the P.E. program class students in the senior high schools/vocational schools. Firstly, the data were collected by way of gathering the recent three school-year (89, 90, 91) documents of the P.E. program classes in 20 senior high schools/vocational schools, located in seven Taiwan southern counties and cities. Then, the P.E. program classes’ curricula (school year, 92) from different schools were analyzed by statistics for further analysis. In order to see the correlation between the curricula of the high schools/vocational schools and the exam subjects for college entrance examination, the researcher tried to rearrange and analyze the exam subjects adopted by every department in the college either the College Entrance Election Examination or College Distribution Examination. In addition, the telephone interview was executed in this study. There were 36 subjects randomly selected from the chief of athletics department and the homeroom teachers of the P.E. program classes in 11 senior high schools/vocational schools. After the telephone interview, the qualitative data were transcribed and coded by words. After that, there was a comparison and analysis on the college entrance rate, employment rate, and the differences in programs from the target schools. Finally, the future suggestion was proposed in order for the promotion of the P.E. program classes in High School/Vocational School. The result of this research was as following: 1. For the recent three school years, there were 1089 graduated students. 1) 609 students attended college, and the college entrance rate was 56 percent. 2) 257 students chose to work, and the employment rate was 24 percent. 3) Others: 223 students (including those who go to army, cram school, or jobless) accounted for the rest of 20 percent. 2. The curricula of P.E. program classes in all target schools were arranged according to the requirement of Education Administration. However, two private schools showed an obvious addition or deletion in sport training hours according to their needs. No obvious reinforcement learning was executed in any of these target schools for the exam subjects adopted by the examination of college entrance. 3. The result of the interview showed that the weakness in academic abilities of students was the most serious problem. As for the employment, students without professional skills were the most serious problem. The future suggestions were provided to enforce students’ academic abilities in the P.E. program class, and to get the support from the Education Administration to access the more ways of college entrance for the P.E. program class students.
