This paper is a study of poetic speed, the rhythm and tempo in literary creations. From a wide range of sources in literature, many passages are cited for an in-depth analysis of the components constituting this pivotal, stylistic marker. Poetic speed reveals a writer's frame of mind, poise of perception, and poignancy of sensibility. It foregrounds the prominence of writing towards an affective angle. In other words, poetic rhythm and tempo may determine thetexture, the tension, the poise, and, consequently, the illocutionary force of any poetic lines of art. This study shows that poetic speed can be generated through theme, diction, imagery, syntax, punctuation, stanzaic designs, andmodes of writing.en_US
