The main purpose of this study is to investigate the occupational prestige and professional image of teachers in Taipei City and Taiwan Province so as to provide specific materials for policy on enhancing the professional status of teachers. 1. The specific objectives of the Study are as follows： （1）To understand how is the occupational prestige of teachers in Taipei City and in Taiwan Province and what are the factors in determining the prestige. （2）To compare the teacher’s occupational prestige and the factors affecting prestige between Taipei City and Taiwan Province. （3）To compare the differences in teacher's occupational prestige evaluated by people of different works and to compare the factors in determining prestige. （4）To understand the views on teacher's professional status held by people of different works in Taipei City and in Taiwan Province, and to compare the differences between their views in the two regions. （5）To understand the views on teacher's professional status held by professional students of education and by non─professional students and to compare the differences between their views. （6）To understand the views on the effective approach to enhancing the professional status of teachers taken by people of different works.（7）To conclude the above─mentioned findings and to present the important materials and recommendations for improving teacher's professional status. 2. In this study the method of questionnaire survey was employed. The theoretical framework of the study was first determined on the basis of the pertinent theory of the teaching profession. Next, the relevant literature was analyzed, and the questionnaires were designed, protested revised, and the final form was set up and put into practice. Then, data were analyzed and summed up；conclusions drawn and report was written. 3.
