宗旨-全球視野與在地實踐
在全球化的今天,臺灣身處亞太新興發展區域的樞紐地位,是東北亞及東南亞的節點, 也是傳統與創新兼具的活力島嶼。本院站在這些潮流之上,提供學生全球視野及在地實踐的學習。
目標-培養複語素養與文化能力
本院外籍生占全院學生之四分之一,已是全校外籍學生之二分之一,以提供學生全球視野及在地實踐的學習。全球國際的視野意味著學生要具備複語素養與文化能力,係以美國外語教學學會認定的5C能力,包含:運用語言溝通的能力(Communication)、體認多元文化的能力(Cultures)、貫連其他學科的能力(Connections)、比較不同語言文化的能力(Comparisons)、及學以致用的能力(Communities)。

本院為外籍學生開設相當豐富的華語文化、社會政經、全球管理、跨文化合作、及社會實踐等課程,幫助外籍學生熟悉華人文化與社會,並透過與本地學生一起學習過程,共同建構國際全球視野。除了華語課程外,本院也提供在地學生多種語言的課程,包括英語、法語、德語、西語、日語、韓語及俄羅斯語等。學生亦可連結各獎學金與獎勵措施,申請赴外國知名大學交換或短期留學。

本院透過具「全球視野」特色的各種課程,開闊學生的視野與胸襟;也透過「在地實踐」的各種考察與實習活動,深耕台灣與世界的連結網絡,以達到培育具全球視野與在地實踐之國際人才。
特色-跨文化交織與跨領域學習
為確保學生畢業時具備複語素養與文化能力,本院提供國際華語、東亞文化與政治經濟、歐洲文化與觀光、社會工作、大眾傳播、國際人力資源等多種學程與課程供學生修習,朝跨學科、跨語言、跨文化等多元學習邁進。本院強調跨領域的學習,並分為三個主軸:
華語文教育
培養各專業領域所需之國際華語人才,使其熟習海內外華人社會與文化,並具備跨文化素養與溝通能力,藉此促進區域間的文化交流,進而厚植全球華語文化的軟實力。
區域研究
聚焦東亞與歐洲研究,透過學生至業界或機構或歐洲合作學校的實習與參訪,培育具「文化思想與應用」、「政經與區域發展」 之跨文化教學及研究人才。鼓勵學生赴外交換與國際學術交流。
社會科學
國際人力資源以全英語授課,幫助學生具備全球化職場素養和人力資源專業知能。傳播則培育具新傳播科技產製、分析與決策能力之大眾傳播專業人才。社工以家庭與社會工作領域為主,培育專業社會工作人才,透過多元對話與學習,建構全球化與在地化專業社會工作視野。

    針對初學者之華語短期速成課程設計-以來臺留學之越南學生為例

    目前國內外籍生之主要來源國來看,亞洲地區以日本外籍生為最多,其次為越南外籍生。近年來,臺灣各大學為了迎接全球國際化趨勢的挑戰,推動全英語授課。英語授課固然能吸引更多越南籍學生來臺就學,但這些越南籍學生面對的問題是,雖然上課時都使用英語,但在日常生活中還是需要用華語進行溝通。 研究者根據越南學生留學的經驗,嘗試設計出針對越南籍學生初學華語之短期速成課程,以符合越南籍學習者的學習需求。課程的主題會著重在日常生活中最基本的問題,如:初抵臺灣時及在臺留學生活中常面對的語言文化問題。 本研究採用「發展研究法」、「文獻分析法」、「問卷調查研究法」。首先探討一些相關領域的文獻,包括語言習得理論,短期速成教學理論,越南籍學生學習華語之問題以及課程設計的相關理論。其次,研究者以問卷調查方式,綜合歸納學習者的華語學習需求,再跟幾位臺灣華語教師進行訪談,了解越南學生學習華語上常遇到的問題以及速成教學課程的內容,安排課堂活動的理念。其後,根據理論和兩方所得的意見設計出適合初學程度的越南籍學生的短期速成課程。最後提出研究總結及對未來後續研究之建議。 研究結果指出,越南學生對於針對來臺就學而設計的華語短期速成課程之需求是肯定的。在研究過程中發現,越南學生在學習華語時比較快掌握詞彙,而發音、語法是比較突出的難點。越南學生發音時常把第一聲和第四聲混淆、第二聲和第三聲沒有精準到位、把送氣和不送氣的聲母混淆。針對越南學生的學習特點,研究者在教學設計部分提出幾個針對性的教學活動,為了加強越南學生學習華語的優點、設法克服他們的難點如:發音加強、詞彙加強、語法加強。

    The Effects of Cultural Intelligence, Self Efficacy and Cross Cultural Communication on Cross Cultural Adaptation of International Students in Taiwan

    The purpose of this research was to explore the effects of cultural intelligence, self efficacy and cross cultural communication on cross cultural adaptation of international students in Taiwan. The participants were 384 students comprising 188 (49%) males and 196 (51%) females. A majority of 164 (42.7%) were in the age range 21-25 years. American students were more than any other nationality at 22.7%. On average international students stayed in Taiwan for 21 months. Data were collected through a questionnaire in which participants were asked to respond to 50 questions on aspects involving, cultural intelligence, self efficacy, cross cultural adaptation and cross cultural communication. The questionnaire also requested the students to provide demographic data relating to their ages, gender, length of time in Taiwan, program of study and their nationality. In answering the questions this study sought to resolve, seven hypotheses were proposed. The hypotheses were directly related to the questions in the 50 item questionnaire. The findings indicated that no statistically significant gender differences could be established with regards to cultural intelligence, self efficacy, cross cultural adaptation, and cross cultural communication. A variety of conclusions were also reached about the variables on different tests. Based on the findings it is argued that universities in Taiwan need not be concerned about gender differences in addressing the issues investigated in this study. Also, that cultural intelligence is positively related with self efficacy, cross cultural adaptation and cross cultural communication suggesting that perhaps this is an area to focus on in dealing with international students. The study also provides recommendations that are specifically targeted at host universities, prospective international students and scholarship agencies. Finally, suggestions for future research are advanced. The suggestions focus on the research being carried out among other groups of students within Taiwan. It is also suggested that repetitive studies could be conducted on the same hypotheses to validate the study as well as to be able to generalize the findings.

    A STUDY ON FACTORS RELATED TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE AT THE MANDARIN TRAINING CENTER IN THE NATIONAL TAIWAN NORMAL UNIVERSITY

    For recent years, number of international students coming to Taiwan in order to pursuit their studies is growing rapidly. A significant part of them come to acquire mandarin language skills. These students utilize services offered by language centers all over the island. However, approximately one fourth of all learners of Chinese enroll in the Mandarin Training Center (MTC), which is affiliated to the National Taiwan Normal University. Its location in the heart of capital city Taipei as well as long history and reputation are intriguing. Despite the long tradition of teaching mandarin as second language, MTC is an organization that is still adapting to international students’ expectations and needs and is improving its services in order to provide environment in which international students can achieve their goals. This research was conducted in order to learn, what are the international students’ points of view (about the MTC services and other topics) and what do they perceive as most significant factors related to their performance and satisfaction at MTC. The methods of data collecting were semi-structured interview and a questionnaire, which used snowball sampling method. SPSS software version 16 was used for data analysis. This study tested six hypotheses. The statistical results showed that only relation of satisfaction and hygiene and situational factors is highly significant. Therefore it could be concluded that variables of hygiene and situational factors are not motivating or de-motivating for international students’ at MTC, however, they still play a significant role in their everyday lives.

    國際高等教育:國際學生在臺學習成就滿意度之研究

    Taiwan has proven and continues to prove its economic prowess as a fast and well developed nation. One theory to account for this accomplishment is its continued success in developing its best natural resource - its people - through education. A continuum of this practice is the implementation of Higher Education and then International Higher Education. Since the early 1990’s higher education foreign students have been studying in Taiwan obtaining degrees in various academic disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels. However, a foreign student, like any other expatriate, may have problems adjusting to a new country. Therefore this study examines the factors that cause students satisfaction or dissatisfaction in adapting and adjusting to life in Taiwan and how those factors may further affect their academic performance. The research method of data collection is a quantitative case study using the Student Satisfaction Questionnaire that was developed and piloted by the researcher. The population is higher education students who have been studying for at least one year in Taiwan and are doing courses in English. The response rate is 73.1%. The results indicate that majority of the international students are satisfied (M = 3.47, SD = .68) where 51.6% could be described satisfied to very satisfied and only 9.4% as dissatisfied. From the 35 questions as independent variables, only 7 show statistical significance to students’ academic performance. Using regional dummy variables, Europe and South America show significance. Age and gender has no significance to students’ performance. TaiwanICDF and Non-TaiwanICDF scholarship students’ status are not significant to students’ performance and there is no statistical difference between their performances. Students Degree is significant to their performance and there is also significant difference between the Graduate and Undergraduate academic performances. The main findings of this research should assist the scholarship organizations, the education institutions, and the Ministry of Education in making the transition and life of foreign students smoother. It may also assist future foreign students in preparation for adjusting and adapting to Taiwan. Finally, the study offers recommendations all the parties involved and the researcher provides suggestions for future research that could aid in learning about the lives of foreign students in Taiwan

    國際學生之適應歷程與跨文化訓練--以國立台灣師範大學為例

    近年來,在全球化的趨勢與潮流之下,不僅企業向國際市場前進,世界各國的教育也將國際化列入發展的目標。為了因應國際人才的需求,台灣在2003年也將高等教育國際化列入政策之一,擴大招募外籍學生,一方面吸引優秀的國際人才,一方面也積極創造一個國際化的學習環境。隨著國際學生人數的增加,如何協助國際學生在台灣的適應與學習,也成為學校與相關機構關注的議題。 過去有不少研究指出,透過跨文化的訓練,可以協助國際學生的適應歷程。然而卻較少有研究探討國際學生的跨文化訓練。因此,本研究目的希望瞭解國際學生在適應歷程中所面臨的困難,以及他們在適應歷程中所運用的策略。同時,本研究進一步調查國際學生所接受的跨文後訓練,以及跨文化訓練在適應歷程中對他們的影響,並且探討國際學生的跨文化訓練需要考慮的因素。 本研究以在台灣師範大學就讀的國際學生為個案,運用質性研究的方法,深入訪談六位國際學生,以及三位來自師大國際事務處與財團法人國際合作發展基金會的職員。另外,為了豐富研究資料,本研究也運用了簡要的問卷調查和相關文件資料的分析。最後,研究者基於研究發現,提出建議予提供國際學生跨文化訓練的相關機構,以茲參考。
